30 Days of Marvel, Day 8: Favorite Film

The Avengers! You can read my full spoiler heavy review here, but this post I will keep very spoiler free in case you are one of the two people on the planet who have yet to see it.

The film has already broken Opening Weekend records, shattering the $169 million pull of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. Avengers ended the weekend with multiple records, including fastest film to make $200 million, biggest Saturday and Sunday takes, and the coveted prize of Biggest Opening Weekend with a total of $207,438,708. One could also make the argument that it is the highest grossing non-sequel of all time, even though it takes place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe it is technically the first Avengers film.

And all of this praise is of course warranted. The Joss Whedon written and directed film does what few ensemble style movies can do, makes each character feel relevant and interesting. Highlights include a scene stealing performance by Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, a maniacal Tom Hiddleston as Loki and a fully fleshed out Black Widow for Scarlett Johansson to play.

The action is astonishing comic book fare, that while I am used to it, average movie goers will be surprised at how awesome and seamless combat flows from one battle to the next. It is a nice change of pace from the chaotic cluster of movement that is a Micheal Bay film that is for sure. You can actually keep track of the chaos going on, and because of it get some really awesome character moments worthy of a cheer.

I just want it on Blu-Ray already so I can watch it over and over and over...
