E3 2011 Wishlist

Microsoft -
Kinect better get some software here soon. I think the Kinect could change not only gaming but technological expectations as a whole, but in order for this to happen the world needs to see the potential of the technology outside of Dance Central and the glorified tech demos that grace the peripheral. I can’t wait for Child of Eden, and am eager to see what Steel Battalion looks like. I also really hope the Star Wars Kienct title skews more towards live action Star Wars and not Clone Wars. The pie in the sky game though? Anything by Epic Games similar to Gears of War. I think third person would work really well for the system, because I could imagine a first person shooter giving nothing but headaches because you would have to defeat the mental block of trying to turn your ‘head’ without actually turning your head. I also think one of the undervalued portions of the technology is the voice commands, so something that incorporated that would be cool.

Nintendo -
I am really excited to see what Nintendo has outside of Nintendogs + for the 3DS. I was really disappointed that Kid Iccaras wasn’t available as a launch title, same with Ocarina of Time. That fact alone is disturbing that Nintendo couldn’t push out a shiny port of a 10 year + old game in time for launch. I really hope the next Super Mario Brothers game is more than just another ‘New Super Mario Bros!’ with a different power up set, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Nintendo won’t stray too far from their unchanging ways. Pretty much I don’t want the 3DS to be the same thing as a DS with prettier graphics. I want the same jump from SNES to the N64, not the jump from NES to SNES. I also hope to see what the next Wii has in store, mostly from a technological standpoint. I am really excited about the ‘no duh’ specs, specifically so I can finally get that HD Mario game I have been craving for years. I just hope it caters to a balance of the hardcore and the casual, as after Mario Kart came out, the hardcore appeal of the Wii dropped off a cliff.

Sony -
I really would like this to be the year for Sony to surprise me, but I don’t know how I would like them to do that. The NPG doesn’t interest me too much, because if I want to play a console game, I am just going to play a console. I really want to see a new Sly Cooper and an HD version of Jak and Daxter, although I am not sure either of those are going to happen. I am also really curious to see how Sony handles the PSN breach, as E3 would be a good time for them to make amends. I think last year Sony announced one of the biggest deals of E3, Steam on the PS3, but they haven’t done anything with it at all. They also need to step it up on the ‘Move’ front.
