30 Days of Film (25): Favorite Documentary Film

The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. This one you really should have seen coming. A game about two men desperately battling for the Donkey Kong high score on Twin Galaxies? This movie is right up my alley.

The story follows Steve Wiebe, a middle school science teacher, in his quest to become Donkey Kong King and the tribulations his challenge had on his family. The problem? The (at the time) current high score holder Billy Mitchell and the exclusive society that is Twin Galaxies. While I respect Twin Galaxies for what they do, and don't discount it in anyway, it seems to me that the community is very exclusive and tight knit, shunning anyone who dares try to become accepted. About half way through the film the film takes a dramatic shift in tone from a competition based film to a film about social clicks and acceptance. I highly recommend it.
