30 Days of Gaming (23): Best Graphics or Art Style

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker. This was back when Nintendo had the balls to turn its (arguably) best franchise into a cartoon. Oh, and they pulled it off too. Sadly, they didn't stick to their guns and then next console iteration didn't feature the same charming graphic style. The graphics added flair, and I would even say inspired some later Nintendo titles that we all love today such as Paper Mario and Kirby's Epic Yarn.

I liked it because I always viewed Zelda as an epic Saturday morning cartoon series, with each game being its own season. The best part about the art style? It gave Link some personality while still allowing the player to impart his or her own traits onto him as well, unlike the other games which paint Link as a stoic silent type. My favorite animation? Link running from a bomb he just threw/planted. His eyes automatically went wide in fear. Personally? If there was a bomb within 30 feet of me I would have the same reaction, not some straight faced "all is going according to plan" look. To me, Link is just a normal person put in an extraordinary situation. Normal people are scared of bombs.
